DescriptionDon't be cattle! Be with your cat!
*In Belarusian language «be cattle» sounds the same as «be with your cat»

«Don’t be cattle!» is a title of known poem by the great belarusian classicist Yanka Kupala, written in the early 20th century in search of self-identification by simple man. After 100 years, the rock band Lyapis Trubetskoy wrote a song on Kupala words as it’s also relevant at the beginning of the 21st century.

In the particular political situation in Belarus, everything connected with the band «Lyapis Trubetskoy» has come under an unofficial ban. Thus a simple humanitarian principle «to live on own land, to work and not to be cattle» has become the protest. In this absurd situation, it was appropriate to add to that pathos a drop of irony.

The wordplay gave new meaning to the well-known slogan: don’t just not be bad, but do something good, even the most simple.

The cartoon character reminds the frontman of Lyapis Trubetskoy, as it is claimed by some workers of the Minsk printing houses that refused to print those posters because of the informal ban on everything related to the band. But a sense of humor and irony still prevail and finally the posters were printed. And a cat as a popular online viral character helped to spread the illustration on social networks and advertise the Generation.by youth site as a project with an unconventional approach to the context.
