Joni Botha started out as an Art Director at one of South Africa’s hottest agencies – Ogilvy Cape Town. He worked on a wide range of accounts, from beer to life insurance to fashion. His experience included working for years on the prestigious Volkswagen and SAB Miller accounts.
During this time, Joni Botha gained invaluable experience and understanding of advertising, marketing and the role of TV in brand building.
His background in advertising is invaluable – he understands how to make the most of a marketing strategy and the concepts that an agency wishes to communicate in a TV script.
Today, Joni Botha works as commercials director around the world. With over 20 years of experience, he has directed every type of commercial – from a 25 minute Guinness epic requiring huge technical expertise to a simple commercial requiring subtle humour in Tibetan dialogue! (He is never lost in translation.)
Joni Botha has won over 70 awards and achieved finalist status for cinematography and direction at: Cannes, The Clios, the New York Festival, the London International TV Awards and the South African Advertising Awards (Loeries).
He still wants to win a Gold at Cannes. That’s why he continues to direct.
